Counselor In Training (C.I.T) Program
Overview
The Power Kids objectives in this program are to help develop self-esteem and leadership abilities. CIT’s will learn how to work with young children, plan and implement program activities, and improve interpersonal skills with peers, campers and staff. This position can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
The counselor-in-training (CIT) program serves as a transition from camper to counselor for young adults. The purpose of this program is to provide qualified teens with the tools and skills necessary to become outstanding camp counselors. CIT’s are placed with different activities around camp on a rotating basis and are exposed to a variety of age groups and camp events. CIT’s are trained under the guidance of experienced counselors and the director. Maturity, responsibility and enthusiasm are critical requirements for this program. Helping plan activities, CIT’s are given increasing responsibilities throughout the summer. Because this is a training program for future leadership roles, only serious campers are considered. Candidates must be committed to developing those skills necessary to become a successful leader. CIT’s are required to participate in all five weeks of camp. We find their skills and confidence increase significantly during this time-frame. Participation in this program does not guarantee future employment, but we have found that many of our best counselors have come through our CIT program.
